Takedown 4: Famous Inflict outsole; lightweight, wide, and durable upper

The Nike Takedown 4 is all about simplicity, reliability, and effectiveness. Everything on these shoes is essential and functional, but there are no extras to muddy up a perfectly amazing shoe. Using the same unique split outsole as the famed Nike Inflict, the Takedown will provide adequate traction, while allowing for great mobility and flexibility. The mesh areas in the upper offer a comfortable fit and a more breathable place for your foot. The lace strap at the top is wide and sturdy, keeping your laces secure the entire match. Perhaps the best feature of this shoe is the spacious toe box. Although Nike does not explicitly identify this as a “wide” shoe (hardly any wrestling shoes are), we know from experience and feedback that this is one of the best wrestling shoes for people with wide feet. That said, wrestling shoes are inherently versatile; these will also work perfectly well for wrestlers with normal-width feet. Either way, the Nike Takedown is truly a high quality shoe that is built for durability and getting the job done in style.

They are great shoes. The grip on them is great and the flexibility in the sides is great. You don't feel constricted and the movability is better than any other, in my opinion.

Shoes look great and feel great on. Very comfortable and good grip. Nike wrestling shoes are long-lasting. After years of training, soles are in good shape and stitching is intact.

Let me preface this by saying, I know nothing about wrestling shoes. Needed some for training. I tried a couple pairs on at a local store and they were all super narrow (for me). I came online, stumbled upon WrestlingMart.com, read the customer service Q&As and was able to make a decision on these Nike Takedown shoes. I'm typically a 6.5Y/Men's size shoe. I bought the size 7 and they fit absolutely perfectly. And they are comfortable. In terms of what I'm guessing is normal fit for wrestling shoes, these shoes run "wide".

The Nike Brand came through with the performance for the time, but the tongue had issues staying in place. It could have just been a wrong fit or a faulty one, but it still got annoying.

Overall, the shoes are really comfortable and I have really wide feet, the material is good, and the shoes do look great. Almost like a retro basketball wrestling shoe. My only criticism is that when the laces meet the strap, the tongue of the shoe should be a little wider

My son is in need of shoes, his current pair are the Nike Inflicts and he is happy with them but it is time for a new pair. I read that the Nike Takedown's are wide, I wouldn't describe his feet as "wide". Are the Takedowns a good upgrade from the Inflicts? or suitable for normal width feet? He is a seasoned wrestler & is in need of great pair of shoes, any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

    Joey P.'s picture

The Nike Takedowns are a downgrade from the Inflicts. The Inflicts are a higher end shoe. They are both great shoes, but the Inflict is a better shoe than the Takedown. An upgraded shoe from the Inflict will be a Nike Freek. Seasoned wrestlers tend to go with Inflicts or Freeks.

Very good question : ) I can tell you've been doing your research. The Nike Takedown 4 and Nike Inflict 3 (newer models) have an almost identical fit. The biggest difference is the toe in the Nike Takedown 4 is slightly wider than in the Inflict 3. This leads some customers who have more narrow feet to end up sizing down a bit.
